Physical Therapy in San Antonio

You have started planning the day around it. Which stairs you take, what you ask someone else to lift, how long you can stand before you need to sit down. That is not weakness, that is you managing something carefully. Physical therapy is how you stop having to.

01What It Is

What Is Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy is the science of restoring how your body moves. A licensed physical therapist watches how you walk, bend, reach and load the joint that hurts, finds the breakdown that is actually producing your symptoms, and builds a plan around your body and your goals. That plan is not a printout. It changes every week as you change. The work runs in four phases and they always run in this order. Pain: hands-on care and targeted movement take pain out of the driver's seat. Prime: range of motion comes back and the movement pattern that caused the problem gets corrected. Perform: strength and function get rebuilt for your sport, your job, your life. Prevent: you leave with the home program and the education so it holds after discharge. Skipping straight to strengthening is why so many people get temporary relief and then land back where they started.

Physical therapy also does what pills and rest cannot. Medication can quiet a symptom for an afternoon and rest can calm a flare, but neither one teaches a joint to move properly or a muscle to fire on time under load. In Texas you do not need to wait on a physician to begin: direct access lets you start physical therapy without a referral for up to 30 days of treatment, so nothing stalls while a doctor's office returns your call. If your plan or your condition does need a referral, we will tell you before your first visit, not after. Sessions run 30 to 60 minutes, one on one, with the same licensed therapist every time, and a typical course of care is 2 to 3 visits a week for 4 to 6 weeks. We are in network with roughly 45 plans and verify your benefits before you walk in, so you know your copay in writing.

02Who It's For

Who It's For

Physical therapy is not only for the seriously injured. If pain, stiffness or a limitation you have quietly been working around is shaping your week, an evaluation is worth the visit. These are the people who walk through our doors in San Antonio.

01

Recovering from surgery or injury

A tear, a fracture, a joint replacement or an accident set you back, and the discharge paperwork told you almost nothing about what happens next. We start where the tissue actually is, protect the repair, and restore range of motion before we ask anything of strength. Then we load it deliberately until the limb holds up to stairs, ladders, groceries and whatever else your week demands of it. The outcome is not being cleared on paper. It is trusting that knee or that shoulder again without having to think about it first.

02

Living with pain that keeps coming back

Back pain, neck pain or a joint that flares every few months has been setting your schedule for longer than you would say out loud. You have already tried rest, stretching and an anti inflammatory, and each one bought you a little time. We look for the reason it returns: a hip that will not rotate, a core that switches on late, a work posture your body cannot tolerate all day. Correcting the mechanics is what breaks the cycle. The outcome is a week you plan around your life rather than around a flare.

03

Losing confidence in your balance

You have started reaching for the handrail. Maybe there was a stumble in the driveway, or an inner ear problem or a diagnosis like Parkinson's disease changed how steady the ground feels. Balance is not one system, it is three, and generic exercise sheets treat none of them well. We test your vision, your inner ear and the sensation in your feet, then train the one that is letting you down and retrain the way you walk. The outcome is a stride you stop thinking about and a store aisle you cross without scanning the floor.

03What To Expect

What to Expect

No conveyor belt, no shared attention, no visits that go nowhere. Here is how an appointment actually runs.

01

A real evaluation, then the plan out loud

Your first visit is an evaluation, not an intake. Your therapist takes the history, watches you walk and bend and reach, and measures range, strength and the movements that reproduce your symptoms. Then you hear it in plain language: what is driving the pain, what we are going to do about it, and roughly how long that should take for your condition rather than a generic timeline.

02

Hands-on work, then movement that uses it

Every session pairs skilled hands-on care with work you do yourself. Joint mobilization and soft tissue techniques calm the area and open up range that has been locked down for months. Then you use that range immediately, under load and under guidance, so your nervous system keeps it instead of giving it back overnight. Each technique has a reason, and your therapist will tell you what it is.

03

Reassess, progress, take it home

Progress gets measured rather than assumed. Your therapist retests the same movements as you go so you can see what has changed, and the program shifts the moment you outgrow it. You leave each visit with a short home routine that fits a real evening, and you leave the whole course of care knowing how to keep the problem from finding its way back.

Good to know

Wear clothes you can move in, and arrive a little early for your first visit so paperwork is finished before treatment starts. Bring your insurance card, a list of your medications, and any imaging or surgical report. If the injury happened at work, say so when you book: we are in network with about 24 workers compensation carriers.

In Their Words
This has been the best PT/rehab I have ever gone through! Mary Lou and Alyssa helped me not only heal and strengthen my leg after injury, they helped me with foot and hip issues as well.
