Sports Rehab in San Antonio

You have been cleared to play, but you are still testing the leg on every cut and still bracing for the moment it gives. Sports rehab closes the gap between cleared on paper and ready in a game.

01What It Is

What Is Sports Rehab?

Sports rehab is recovery built around the sport you are trying to get back to. It is not a generic exercise sheet handed to every athlete who walks in. A pitcher rebuilding a shoulder needs different work than a soccer player rebuilding a knee, so your program is written around your sport, your position, and the demands you will face the day you step back on the field. Your therapist assesses how you move in the clinic and how you have to move in competition, then rebuilds strength, power and control in that order. Care follows the same phases we use throughout the clinic. Pain, to calm the injured tissue down. Prime, to restore range of motion and correct the movement pattern that caused the injury. Perform, to rebuild the strength and speed your sport actually asks for. Prevent, so the home program and the education hold once you are back in the rotation. In Texas you can start without a physician referral for up to 30 days of treatment, which matters when a season is already running.

The other half of the work is durability. We do not treat the injured joint in isolation, because an injured joint is often just the place where a problem somewhere else finally surfaced. A stiff ankle loads a knee. A weak hip loads a hamstring. Your therapist looks up and down the chain, strengthens the link that was actually failing, and drills the movement patterns that keep the same injury from repeating the moment you return to game speed. Sessions run 30 to 60 minutes, one on one with the same therapist every visit, so nothing about your progression gets handed off or lost between appointments.

02Who It's For

Who it's for.

Sports rehab is for the athlete who cares about what happens after the injury heals. Whether you compete on a school team, in a weekend league, or against your own training log, your recovery should be built around the demands you are going back to.

01

Recovering from a sport related injury

A ligament, a hamstring or a joint gave out mid play, and the swelling has settled but the trust has not. Your therapist rebuilds the specific strength, control and load tolerance your position asks of you, starting with the tissue that failed and working outward through the whole chain that loads it. Progression is earned through testing rather than granted by the calendar. What you are working toward is a knee or a shoulder you stop thinking about while you are competing.

02

Cleared by your doctor but not ready to compete

Your imaging looks fine and your notes say cleared, yet cutting, landing and sprinting still feel like a gamble. This is the gap sports rehab exists to close. We load the movements your sport actually punishes, at the speeds it punishes them, and rebuild the reactive strength that a general strength program never restores. What you gain is a return you can defend with real testing rather than a date on a chart.

03

Trying to stop the same injury repeating

You have pulled the same hamstring or rolled the same ankle more than once, and you have started shaping your training around it. Repeat injuries usually trace back to a pattern nobody corrected: a hip that will not stabilize, an ankle that will not bend, a landing that collapses inward. Your therapist finds the link, retrains it, and leaves you with the maintenance work that keeps it. What you gain is a season you actually finish.

03What To Expect

What to expect in a session.

Sessions are progressive. The early work looks like careful rehabilitation and the later work looks like training, because that is exactly what a real return to sport requires.

01

Evaluation and a sport specific plan

You tell your therapist the sport, the position and the movements that matter most in it. From there comes a full movement assessment, strength and range of motion testing on both sides, and an honest read on where the deficit sits. You leave the first visit with a plan mapped to your season, the milestones you have to hit, and a realistic sense of the timeline.

02

Loading, hands on work and sport drills

Early sessions combine manual therapy to settle stiffness with strength work that rebuilds what the injury took. As tolerance improves, the drills start resembling your sport: change of direction, deceleration, landing mechanics, throwing or striking patterns. Every progression is a decision your therapist makes with you in the room, based on how the last one held up rather than on a fixed schedule.

03

Return to play testing and a maintenance plan

Before you go back, your therapist tests you: strength side to side, hop and landing quality, agility under fatigue, and the specific movement your injury happened in. You see the results yourself. You leave with the maintenance program that protects the gains, plus the early warning signs worth acting on instead of playing through.

Good to know

Bring your sport, your position and your competition schedule to the first visit. A short video of you training or playing helps more than any description, because it shows your therapist the exact mechanics we are rebuilding toward. If you have imaging or a surgeon's protocol, bring that too.

In Their Words
I am very pleased with the results of my rehabilitation at Liberty, I walked in barely able to hold my camera equipment without pain, and now I am without the pain.
