Dr. Mary Lou Lugo
Dr. Mary Lou Lugo founded Liberty Rehabilitation Specialists, and she still treats. She received her degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 1994 and has been adding to it ever since: Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, an Orthopedic Specialist Certification in May of 2006, a Clinical Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Regis University in Denver, Colorado, a CrossFit Level 1 trainer course, and certification in dry needling. Her interest is health and preventative wellness, and she uses both halves of that training, physical therapist and strength coach, to rehabilitate her patients. In the treatment room that means dry needling, laser therapy, cupping, taping and the NEUBIE, chosen for what the case in front of her actually needs.
What guides the work.
Her focus is health and preventative wellness, which is a different starting point than waiting for something to break. The orthopedic and fellowship training tells her what is going on in the joint. The strength and conditioning side tells her what you need to be able to load, and how to get you there. Manual work, dry needling, laser therapy, cupping, taping and the NEUBIE are the tools underneath that, not the plan itself. Which ones you meet depends entirely on your evaluation.
